In my travel bucket list, Palawan’s Subterranean River (or Underground River) is a must-experience. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. I made sure to check it out before I head off to Maia Earth Village for a retreat. So, I booked and joined a day tour.
While in the motorized boat crossing from Sabang Wharf to the National Park, I was looking into the vast sea. Suddenly, I was caught in a dream state of being Sophie in The BFG story entering Giant Country. I usually get images randomly but this felt like tapping another dimension of myself.
A giant presence was looking on my adventure
and I was aware of her too.
Finally, it’s our turn to do the 45-minute cave tour. The boat guide lighted the limestone cave formations with an audio guide on our ears. The mood was close to the Phantom of the Opera scenes riding a gondola in pitch darkness but spelunking at the same time!
I am always in awe and humbled by nature’s sheer beauty inherent in everything and everyone including the unseen giants among us.
Questions only surfaced and left unanswered again.
Who is looking at me?
How can I communicate to the other I?
Why am I having this encounter?
“The matter with human beans,” the BFG went on, “is that they is absolutely refusing to believe in anything unless they is actually seeing it right in front of their own schnozzles.”
